I wish I had chilled out and never purchased this equipment!I have a Unico system with 2 unichillers and 5 air handlers installed by Bryant Heating and Air from Hillsborough, NC. I really wish it worked like the literature, website and sales people promised. In 3 years it has not worked for one cooling or heating season with out MAJOR breakdowns. We have replaced unichillers, pumps, valves, capacitors, control boards, to name a few.It has never heated or cooled my home properly. When we turned on the air for this year it became evident the 5 ton chiller is bad and needs to be replaced. We are now forced out of our home because it is so hot (92 inside) and now Bryant wants to charge me $2800 to fix something that has never worked. My personal experience with Bryant and Unico for my home has been very bad and I regret the day we learned about this system that sounds so great. If Unico is really great and I have just had a bad experience please fix it and let me just enjoy my home with heating and cooling. What do you think? System cost $65,000 and has not delivered one heating or cooling season without MAJOR shutdowns.

I did a deep red on the top half of our dining room walls, and I was told to use Benjamin Moore. It was a little more expensive, but one coat of grey primer, and one coat of red made it look great. I did a second coat of red to cover up some thin areas I didn't notice while painting it, but the second coat didn't really change the color.

I have an 1850's farm house and am exposing the old hand hewn beams in the living room. How did you remove the plaster lines? Did you sand them?

Thanks, Jean

Ahhh the fan of death...memories.
Spray foam, we were looking at that. Seriously looking. I think we need to that before next year if I find a job because there are only so many socks and gloves I can wear.

Ah the joys of insulation. We just got our attic insulation in a few weeks ago too. M was so thrilled to be able to stick his head through the access door and have it actually be colder in the attic than in the second floor. (our attic is just that - not a real room like yours, so we insulated the attic floor not the ceiling)

Simple pleasures.

ooooh, so so true. I think I have the same caulk gun. It is heaven. I love it so much that I meticulously clean it after every use. I bought it at the local hardware store and just about fell over when it rang up even more $$ than another one I was considering. I immediately realized it was totally worth it. Of course, I also have a couple of the cheapies for those times I need multiple guns going at the same time with different tubes of stuff.

I totaly agree with you. Every moen fixture in my house have had a broken handle at least once not to mention the leaky one in the kitchen. The parts to repair cost so much that it is better to buy the whole new fixture. I guess thats' what moen intended. Changing all fixture to anther manufature. Moen can bite my ass also.

Hi! I have a question and maybe you could point me to someone who might know? I am considering a 4 square on the North Side, and an alley runs along side of it. Because of the alley and not having grass or soil to suck up water, does this mean that flooding or seepage could be a problem and something I need to be cautious of? I have never owned a house in Chicago and have no clue on who to ask for advice. Thanks, love the blog - I read every single entry!

Hi - I don't think you're nuts at all. See - I love the game of bowling and I am lost in the 1950s and 1960s. I can relate to your emotions here. I know by the section of bowling lane approach that you have that your bowling center was an AMF house. Why? Because the dots are in colors. Brunswick never did that. AMF did. I would love to buy a length of that stuff myself.
